My first outside trip with Andy as a partner was an IMC trip to Yorkshire in 2019.  He was keen to educate me on Limestone and Brimham Grit so I could start to appreciate different rock types. We did 12 climbs together with Andy leading up to HVS and me a leading a couple of grades lower.  His comments guided me in a way that gave me confidence not only on the climb, but in my own growing experience and ability.  We had talked about belaying and when I held him after a small slip he said “that was good enough for him”.  At the end of the trip, he said “you can climb with me any time”.  I felt like I had passed my exam.  His words then were a ringing endorsement that still mean a lot to me.  Thanks Andy.
